Final Project

I am a Designer.

I, Katrina Joseph am a designer. I have a true love and passion for fashion. The styling aspect of fashion is what interest me the most. I enjoy using unique pieces in my outfits so they can stand out and make a statement. Styling gives me the opportunity to explore different looks and express who I am through an outfit. I feel that all designers can, in a sense express themselves through their designs. When I started college two years ago I was a business major. I knew deep down I didn't want to spend the rest of my life sitting in an office bored. I then decided I should study something that truly makes me happy. After completing school I have hopes of becoming a celebrity stylist and being a stylist for a major magazine.

Balance

This dress represents imbalance because, one shoulder is completely exposed. There is more visual weight on the side with the sleeve.

"Google Images." Google Images. N.p., n.d. Web. 17 Sept. 2012. http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1.

This dress has perfect symmetrical balance. If you were to cut her dress in half, each piece would be the same.

"Celebrity Breakdown: Lea Michele." To Each Their Own. N.p., n.d. Web. 17 Sept. 2012. <http://toeachtheirownstyle.com/2010/04/06/celebrity-breakdown-lea-michele/>.

Balance is represented in this dress design.

Scale and Proportion

This dress is a perfect example of surrealism. It is quite evident that someones lips and eyes can not be that big. Surrealism is based off of a paradox.

"-MONO DAILYDOSE-." : FASHION & SURREALISM!!! N.p., n.d. Web. 14 Sept. 2012. <http://monodailydose.blogspot.com/2012/04/fashion-surrealism.html>.

Contrast of scale is shown in this shirt because, the designer uses the black bow to draw attention to the white ruffles.

"WOMEN'S TOPS." Shop Womens Designer Tops at Flannels Fashion. N.p., n.d. Web. 17 Sept. 2012. <http://www.flannelsfashion.com/women/tops.aspx>.

This shirt shows internal reference because, it has been scaled to show someones actual size.

"The New York Times." World News. N.p., n.d. Web. 17 Sept. 2012. <http://article.wn.com/view/2012/09/16/Out_of_Print_Books_on_a_TShirt_Near_You/>.

Rhythm

Progressive rhythm is also a rhythm that repeats, but it's the repetition of an object or shape that progressively changes.

"Google." Google. N.p., n.d. Web. 14 Sept. 2012. <https://www.google.com/search?hl=en>.

Alternating  rhythm consists of successive patterns where the same elements appear in a regular order.

"Ecote Metal Armor Tank - Urban Outfitters." Urban Outfitters. N.p., n.d. Web. 14 Sept. 2012. http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=25698150.

Visual rhythm is an element of design that is based on the repetition of recurrent motifs.

"Vintage Monzini Collection 1990s Shirt - 90s -Monzini Collection- Mens Grays, Olive Greens, Black, Wild Swirling Wavy Lines Print, Polyester Crepe, Longsleeve Club/rave Style Sport Shirt with Front Button Closure, Button Collar, Straight Body and Hem, Button Cuffs." Emphasis and Focal Point

This blouse is a representation of emphasis by isolation. Because the shirt only has one sleeve, attention is drawn to the bare arm.

"Vionnet Silk-chiffon One-shoulder Top - Clothes Fashion." Clothes Fashion. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Sept. 2012. <http://www.clothes-fashion.com/2010/12/vionnet-silk-chiffon-one-shoulder-top.html>.

Because of the placement of the image on the shirt, emphasis by placement is being shown. Because the designer places the image dead center, your attention is automatically drawn to the face.

"Keith Is The S*it Tee - Urban Outfitters." Urban Outfitters. N.p., n.d. Web. 14 Sept. 2012. <http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=26178004>.

This photo represents emphasis by value. The spotlight is directly focused on the model, therefore the viewer does not notice surrounding objects.

Unity

The two dresses are representations of gestalt. Although they are two totally different patterns they are still the same dress.

"Luna by Josandra Review." Luna by Josandra Review. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 Sept. 2012. http://meandbella.com/2011/04/luna-by-josandra-review/.

The two dresses have repeating patterns to help make the design more effective. The use of repetition in the dress patterns creates visual unity.

The checkered shirt shows the use of a grid to create unity in the shirt.
